How to set up Single Sign-on to VertexGraph with Okta

In this article, we will go through the steps to add VertexGraph as an application in Okta to enable Okta users to single sign on to VertexGraph.

Enable Single Sign-On in VertexGraph

1. In the admin dashboard, click on the “User” icon on the top right
2. In the dropdown menu that gets opened up, select “Settings”
3. Click on “Configure” under “Single Sign On”
4. Turn on the toggle for “Enable SAML for Single Sign On”

Creating an application in Okta

1. In the Okta admin dashboard, click on the “Applications” dropdown, then click on “Application”
2. Click on the “Create App Integration” button
3. Select “SAML 2.0” and click “Next”
4. Enter a name for the app, e.g. VertexGraph
5. Click on the “Upload” icon to upload an App logo
6. Click on “Browse files”
7. Select a file toupload and click “Apply”

9. Then click on “Next”
10. Go to VertexGraph page, and copy the “Assertion Consumer Service (ACS) URL”
11. Go back to Okta's page, paste the link to the “Single sign-on URL” field
12. Go to VertexGraph page, and copy the link under “Access service provider meta data using the following link:”
13. Go to Okta’s page, paste the link to the “Audience URI” field
14. Click on “Show advanced settings”
15. In Attribute Statements, create an attribute Email as follows:
16. Scroll down and click “Next” inside the “Preview SAML assertion” box
17. Then, click on “I’m an Okta customer adding an internal app” and click “Finish”
18. After the app is created, go to the application’s “Sign on” tab
19. Scroll down to find the “SAML Setup” section and click the “View SAML setup instructions”
20. Copy the “Identity Provider Single Sign-On URL” link

Set up application in VertexGraph

1. In VertexGraph, still in the single sign on setting page, click on the "ID Provider" tab
2. Click on the “Settings” icon in the box
3. In the dropdown, select “Okta” and then click “Continue”
4. Paste the link into VertexGraph and click “Apply"

Test the single sign-on with a native user

1. This organization has a native user with email jwilliamson@anglechase.com in the VertexGraph software.
2. Previously, Justin has also been added to Okta as a user
3. In the management page for the newly added app, click on the “Assign” button under “Assignments” tab
4. Click on “Assign to People”
5. In the dialog box that popped up, select “Assign” next to Justin Williamson
6. Then in the next dialog box, click “Save and Go Back”
7. Click on the “Done” button in the dialog box
8. The user is added to the VertexGraph app inside Okta successfully
9. Now, suppose Justin goes to portal.vertexgraph.cloud, enter his email and click “Continue”
10. He will see an option “Single Sign On with Okta”
11. After clicking on “Single Sign On with Okta”, he is taken to the Okta page to login
12. After signing in through Okta, Justin is brought to the user portal inside VertexGraph
