In this article, we will go through the steps to add VertexGraph as an application in Okta to enable Okta users to single sign on to VertexGraph.
Enable Single Sign-On in VertexGraph
- In the admin dashboard, click on the “User” icon on the top right
- In the dropdown menu that gets opened up, select “Settings”
- Click on “Configure” under “Single Sign On”
- Turn on the toggle for “Enable SAML for Single Sign On”
Creating an application in Okta
- In the Okta admin dashboard, click on the “Applications” dropdown, then click on “Application”
- Click on the “Create App Integration” button
- Select “SAML 2.0” and click “Next”
- Enter a name for the app, e.g. VertexGraph
- Click on the “Upload” icon to upload an App logo
- Click on “Browse files”
- Select a file toupload and click “Apply”
- You can use this image for the logo:
- Then click on “Next”
- Go to VertexGraph page, and copy the “Assertion Consumer Service (ACS) URL”
- Go back to Okta's page, paste the link to the “Single sign-on URL” field
- Go to VertexGraph page, and copy the link under “Access service provider meta data using the following link:”
- Go to Okta’s page, paste the link to the “Audience URI” field
- Click on “Show advanced settings”
- In Attribute Statements, create an attribute Email as follows:
- Scroll down and click “Next” inside the “Preview SAML assertion” box
- Then, click on “I’m an Okta customer adding an internal app” and click “Finish”
- After the app is created, go to the application’s “Sign on” tab
- Scroll down to find the “SAML Setup” section and click the “View SAML setup instructions”
- Copy the “Identity Provider Single Sign-On URL” link
Set up application in VertexGraph
- In VertexGraph, still in the single sign on setting page, click on the "ID Provider" tab
- Click on the “Settings” icon in the box
- In the dropdown, select “Okta” and then click “Continue”
- Paste the link into VertexGraph and click “Apply"
Test the single sign-on with a native user
- This organization has a native user with email jwilliamson@anglechase.com in the VertexGraph software.
- Previously, Justin has also been added to Okta as a user
- In the management page for the newly added app, click on the “Assign” button under “Assignments” tab
- Click on “Assign to People”
- In the dialog box that popped up, select “Assign” next to Justin Williamson
- Then in the next dialog box, click “Save and Go Back”
- Click on the “Done” button in the dialog box
- The user is added to the VertexGraph app inside Okta successfully
- Now, suppose Justin goes to portal.vertexgraph.cloud, enter his email and click “Continue”
- He will see an option “Single Sign On with Okta”
- After clicking on “Single Sign On with Okta”, he is taken to the Okta page to login
- After signing in through Okta, Justin is brought to the user portal inside VertexGraph
