Enabling file locking
1. Click on the user avatar on the top right, then select the “Settings” option
2. Click on “Configure” under “Native Client Settings”
3. Click on the “File locking” tab, then turn on the toggle
File locking in action
Here, we have two users, Justin Williamson (jwilliamson@anglechase.com) and gmorton@anglechase.com (Gerard Morton).
The default storage drive currently has a file FileDoc.
Justin can see the file on his Windows client.
Gerard can see the file on his Windows client as well.
Then, Justin opens the file.
As an admin, you can go to the “File locks” tab to see the lock held by Justin.
Since Justin holds the lock, if Gerard opens the same file, he will get an error.
Then Justin makes some edits to the file.
The change is reflected on the web portal.
After a few seconds, the lock disappears from the “File Locks” list
Later, when Gerard opens the file, he will be able to see the updates as well:
