As part of the dataleak protection, admins can control the expiration time of file or folder sharing. In this article, we will show how admins can configure the setting, and show some examples.
Expiration Time for Shared Folder/File
By default, the “Expiration Time for Shared Folder/File” field is 0, which means that users have the freedom to choose the expiration time when they share a file or folder. If admins enter a positive number here, that will make all the file and folder sharing have that many days until the expiration date.
For example, suppose the admin sets an expiration time of 20 days.
Then a user shares a file File01.docx on February 5.
The share recipient will see an expiration time of close to 20 days.
Maximum share expiration time
Admins can also control the maximum expiration time for sharing a file or folder.
If the “Expiration Time for Shared Folder/File” field is set to 0, then “Maximum Share Expiration Time” puts an upper limit to the expiration time that can be set by users. For example, if the “Maximum Share Expiration Time” field is set to 10, and the user picks a date that is more than 10 days from when the file or folder is shared, then the date is automatically adjusted to 10 days in the future.
If the “Expiration Time for Shared Folder/File” field is a positive number and smaller than “Maximum Share Expiration Time”, then all file and folders shared will have expiration time specified by “Expiration Time for Shared Folder/File”.
On the other hand, if “Expiration Time for Shared Folder/File” is bigger than “Maximum Share Expiration Time”, then all files and folders shared will still just have expiration time specified by “Expiration Time for Shared Folder/File”.
For example, suppose the expiration time is 20 days while the maximum sharing time is 10 days.
Then a user tries to share a file.
Now the recipient sees an expiration time close to 10 days
